What is the deadline for the application submission for 2025/26 edition?
1st call: 3rd to 31st March 2025; 2nd call: 2nd June to 15th July 2025.
This PhD programme is biennial.

When will the information about the applicants' selection be sent?
Candidates will receive information on the selection processes before the enrolment deadlines are open, according to the annually established calendar by UC.

What is the class schedule?
The first semester will run from September through January and the second semester from February through June. Calendar will be available here.

What is the frequency of the classes?
Classes are scheduled to take place on Fridays and Saturdays.

Is attendance at Seminars compulsory?
Yes, it is. Attending seminars at distance is not an option. Students are expected to participate in the seminars listed in the study plan, as well as the sessions with external speakers, organized within the programme’s activities.

What are the programme's working languages?
The Programme is taught in Portuguese, in the 2025/2026 edition, but the essays, thesis project, drafts of the dissertation and final version of the dissertation can be written in Portuguese, English or Spanish. The oral defence, or viva, of the thesis project and of the dissertation can also be conducted in any of the three languages.
Candidates who do not master Portuguese language may get informed on the conditions of access and frequency of the language courses offered by the University of Coimbra.

What is the annual fee?
