Teresa Almeida Cravo


Biography

Teresa Almeida Cravo is a Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, within the Research Group 3: Europe and the Global South - Heritages and Dialogues, and an Associate Professor in International Relations at the Faculty of Economics, both at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. She's currently the coordinator of the FEUC/CES PhD Programme in International Relations - International Politics and Conflict Resolution. She holds a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge. Her thesis developed a critique of development aid discourses of success and failure in post-conflict states in Africa, focusing on Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau. She was awarded a Master of Arts in Peace Studies from Bradford University, in the United Kingdom. She graduated in International Relations from FEUC and completed a diploma on Human Rights and Democratization in the Law Faculty at the same University. Teresa was an Academic Visitor at the African Studies Centre of the University of Oxford, a Visiting Fellow at the University of Westminster, in London, and at Monash University in Melbourne. She was an Associate of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, after holding a Predoctoral Fellowship at their International Security Program and the Intrastate Conflict Program. In the last few years, she was the head of the International Relations Department at FEUC, as well as the coordinator of its undergraduate degree in International Relations, the coordinator of the Master programme in International Relations - Peace, Security and Development Studies, the coordinator of the Master programme in International Relations and the co-coordinator of the FEUC/CES PhD Programme "Democracy in the XXIst Century". Her research interests include critical perspectives on peace and violence, security, development, global interventionism and foreign policy, particularly within the context of Portuguese-speaking countries. Her work uses the post-structuralist theoretical framework to discuss discourses and representations, and their implications for international politics.
