Ana Cordeiro Santos


Biography

Ana Cordeiro Santos is an Assistant Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, where she is member of the Thematic Line (Semi)Peripheral Capitalism: Crises and Alternatives. She has a PhD in Economics and Philosophy from the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands), a Master's in Economics and Social Policy from the University of Roskilde (Denmark) and a degree in Economics from the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (ISEG) of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). Between 1996 and 2008, she was an Assistant Professor at ISCTE-IUL, where she taught on the Economics degree programme. Since then, she has been devoted to research, focusing on the processes of financialisation of the Portuguese economy and society, with a special focus on housing. Her most recent publications include the book Financialisation in the European Periphery: Work and Social Reproduction in Portugal, London: Routledge, 2021 (organised with Nuno Teles); and the articles 'Conceptualising state financialisation: from the core to the periphery', New Political Economy, 2023, and 'Peripheral housing rentierisation in Southern Europe: reflections from the Portuguese case', Housing Studies, 2024. She has also held various institutional positions, including the Board of the Portuguese Political Economy Association (2018-2021). She is currently a member of the Permanent External Scientific Advisory Committee of Dinâmia'CET-Iscte and President of the Scientific Council of CES.
