Marta Mascarenhas


Biography

Marta Mascarenhas is a Social Worker and Junior Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies - University of Coimbra, integrating the research team of the X-MEN Project (Masculinities, Empathy and Nonviolence), developed in partnership with Spain and Croatia and which, in national territory, develops its research-action programme in Youth Detention Centres. She is attending the Interuniversity PhD Programme in Social Work at the University of Coimbra and the Portuguese Catholic University, where she is finalising her thesis on Family Reunification and Decision Making in the context of the National Protection System for Endangered Children and Young People. She is part of the Masculinities Observatory (Observatório Masculinidades.pt), namely in the Research Group of Research dedicated to youth. She is also part of the MenCare Partners' Council, a global fatherhood campaign, active in more than 60 countries on five continents, and coordinated by Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice and Sonke Gender Justice, whose mission is to promote men's involvement as equitable, nonviolent fathers and caregivers in order to achieve family well-being, gender equality, and better health for mothers, fathers, and children. She has extensive experience in working on national and international sports programmes and events adapted for people with disabilities, and is also on the Board of the International Boccia Federation.
