Patrícia Ferreira
Biography
Patrícia Ferreira has a degree in Biology, a Master's in Science Communication and a PhD in "Governance, Knowledge and Innovation - Social Studies of Science and Technology". She is a collaborator researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra, and at the Research Laboratory in Epidemiology and Social Determination of Health at the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases (Osvaldo Cruz Foundation, Rio de Janeiro). She is also a member of the Clinical Research Group in Epidemiology and Innovative Technologies in Health (CNPq, Brazil). Her research aims to (re)imagine modes of knowledge production about infectious diseases and health promotion, focussing on the living conditions, resistance and struggles of people and communities affected by sanitary crises and epidemics, and by its consequences. It crosses disciplinary boundaries, including social studies on science, technology and society, medical anthropology and critical studies on public and global health, and is composed by stories intertwined at the intersections of the divergent worlds of health promotion, infections and epidemics. She is also dedicated to promoting dialogues and communication initiatives between the social sciences and the life and health sciences in media and public spaces. In 2022, she was awarded the Eng. António de Almeida Foundation Prize, recognising the best doctoral thesis from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra.
