Abstract
This seminar will present results of the research carried out during the doctoral traineeship , a case study on "Media Neglected Diseases" in Portugal , from the analysis of media publicity in the Publico (newpaper) from May 1, 2013 to to July 31,2013.
The researcher performed an analysis of health news broadcasted during the study period associated with a document analysis of the landscape of health in Portugal, based on official data released on "National Health Plan 2012-2016"- Health Profile in Portugal (PORTUGAL,2013) and "Spring Report 2013" (OPSS, 2013) organized by the Portuguese Observatory of Health Systems. Furthermore semi-structured interviews with key actors in the discussion of media dissemination of health in Portugal were conducted. Thus, the researcher identified the major health issues that were broadcasted, as well as thematic undermined by the perspective of these actors.
The seminar aims to discuss the results as well as the issue of "media malpractice" in relation to diseases in Portugal. It is guided by the theoretical referentials of Communication and Health, Public Health, Sociology and Social Communication to support the discussion.
