Seminar with Elena Demitrova from Sofia University, Bulgaria, on the urban regeneration process developed in the city, in the framework of the project URBiNAT - Healthy corridors as drivers of social housing neighbourhoods for the cocreation of social, environmental and marketable NBS. After the presentation, a space for dialogue will be opened with the URBiNAT CES team.

Bio note

Elena Demitrova (Universidade de Sófia) | Graduated as architect in 1976 and defended her PhD in 1990, at the Urban Planning Department, University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Sofia where she has been Associate Professor (2003-2017) and is currently part-time lecturer and senior researcher. Her professional interests are in the spatial and sociocultural aspects of sustainable development, participatory planning, interdisciplinary and intercultural urban research. Over thirty years of teaching in spatial policy and planning: lecturing in Spatial policy for environmental protection and sustainable development, European planning systems, and Planning Theory; supervision of PhD and diploma works in architecture and urban planning.

International research collaboration as UACEG team leader in PETUS project (Practical evaluation tools for urban sustainability, 2002-2005) and ECHOES project (2016-2019); UACEG team member in URBiNAT project (Urban Innovative & Inclusive Nature, Horizon 2020, 2018 - continuing); contact person in SPA-CE.NET (Network of spatial planning research institutions in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe).

International collaboration in higher education: national representative and contact person of UACEG in AESOP (European Association of Planning Schools); coordinator for UACEG in: AUSMIP+ project (ERASMUS-MUNDUS Programme, 2011-2015), and Urban Innovation Network, CEEPUS programme, 2010-2021; UACEG team member in HURBE project (Healthy Urban environment: Developing Higher Education in Architecture and Construction in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ERASMUS+ KA2 programme, 2018-2021).

Experience in the interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue on cultural heritage as a factor for sustainable development: expert member of the Scientific Committee on Historic Cities, Towns, and Villages (CIVVIH) of ICOMOS International since 2010, Vice-President of ICOMOS-Bulgaria (2011-2022), member of ICOMOS Quality Principles working group (2019) and representative of ICOMOS-Bulgaria in ICOMOS SDG Working Group (2020 – continuing).
