About

This session will present the 3D model of the reconstitution of the monastery in 1834 and explain how it was developed throughout the SANTACRUZ Project. We will revisit the major phases of the monastery's construction, with the support of Maria de Lurdes Craveiro, Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. We will also revisit, guided by Alexandre Ramires, the numerous photographic campaigns carried out in the second half of the 19^th century, which were an invaluable source for the model. At the end, a guided tour will take place through a series of hotspots strategically placed in the former monastic dependencies and surrounding spaces, where participants will be able to confront the current reality with the corresponding situation in 1834, using QR Codes to be read by the participants' Smartphones and Tablets.

Bio notes 

Rui Lobo is CES researcher and auxiliar professor at the Departament of Architecture / Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), where he teaches since 1994. He has a Degree in Architecture at the University of Coimbra (1994), acomplished "Provas de Aptidão Pedagógica e Capacidade Científica" at the FCTUC (2000) and has a PhD in Architecture at the University of Coimbra (2010) with the thesis "A Universidade na Cidade. Urbanismo e arquitectura universitários na Península Ibérica da idade média e da primeira idade moderna". He has produced research in the field of history of architecture and urbanism, especially concerning university and college buildings and facilities. He also researches in history of Portuguese architecture and jesuit architecture. From 2011 to 2015 he was Coordinator of the Master Course in Architecture at the FCTUC, and from 2015 to 2018 he was Vice-Director of the Department of Architecture / FCTUC. He is currently Vice-Coordinator of the Doctoral Course in Architecture of the University of Coimbra, since 2014.

Mauro Costa Couceiro is Collaborator-Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra and has been teaching and developing research around analogies between Biology, Architecture and Design, particularly in the interaction of analogical and digital processes and their technological applications. With a PhD from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Mauro is, since 2018, Co-Principal Investigator of the Santa Cruz Project.

Margarida Relvão Calmeiro, Degree and PhD in Architecture from the University of Coimbra, Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture of FCTUC, lecturer of the Integrated Master in Architecture and the Master in Integrated Urban Rehabilitation, being co-coordinator of the latter. She conducts research on the processes and policies of planning and intervention in cities and in the Portuguese territory, focusing on issues of urban regeneration, heritage safeguard and sustainable development.

Jorge Cardoso is a lecturer at the Department of Computer Engineering (DEI) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra and a researcher at the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra. He is coordinator of the Degree in Design and Multimedia and teaches the subjects of Internet Technologies, Interactive Media Design, Personal-Computer Interaction and Interactive Virtual Reality Environments. He is also a member of the Europeana Network Association Members Council.

José Pedro Sousa is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), where he founded and coordinates the Digital Fabrication Laboratory (DFL). He has a degree in Architecture from FAUP (Porto), a Master in Genetic Architectures from ESARQ-UIC (Barcelona), and a PhD in Architecture from IST-UL (Lisbon), having been a Special Student at MIT (Cambridge, MA) and a Visiting Scholar at UPenn (Philadelphia, PA). He is currently a member of the High-Level Roundtable of the New European Bauhaus.

António Monteiro is currently a guest lecturer at the Department of Architecture of FCTUC. He was a lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Landscape at Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama, in Coimbra. He taught 3D Animation in the Art and Design course at Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra. Regularly collaborates with profissionals and organisations in the areas of Architecture, Drawing and Design. He was a research scholarship holder in the Santa Cruz Project between 2019 and 2020. In his spare time he dedicates himself to digital art, urban art and alternative themes, preparing several proposals for exhibitions and artistic activities.
