Cinema throughout its history has strongly contributed to the construction of globalized images of cities. Iberian cities are not an exception. Spanish and Portuguese cities were delineated in Cinema by foreigner and national directors, during periods of dictatorship and democracy, with propagandistic, cultural and touristic purposes, in documentaries, as pure shooting scenarios or as true fictional personages. What and how much of these visions of Iberian culture have in common? How the construction of stereotyped images changed the international reputation of the peninsular cities? There are some questions to be addressed during the lectures series.

Without pretending to make an exhaustive analysis, Portuguese and Spanish specialists will try to strengthen mutual knowledge on identity aspects, to deal with topical and atypical visions embedded in different filmic works that adopt cities from the Peninsula as evident or subjacent personages. This pluridisciplinary approach will allow certainly to take a less conventional and broader glance at Iberian cities in cinema.
