José Manuel Mendes, coordinator of OSIRIS | Observatory of Risk, addresses the current crisis caused by COVID-19 and how it can be read in the light of some classic sociologists and the proponents of the concept of risk society. A critical analysis on the way in which the crisis is being managed politically through the injection of mathematical and epidemiological models and curves and the uncritical use of concepts to explain the social dynamics related to COVID-19 without any scientific basis.
