Overview
In this article Meike Wolf analyses, based on an ethnographic study in urban spaces such as London and Frankfurt, and mobilizing the tools of social studies of science and technology, the sociotechnical devices of public health comprised to deal in a prepared and anticipatory way with the emergence of a influenza pandemic. The article analyses how isolated cases of influenza gradually transform a microbiological emergency site with into a biomedical, technological, administrative and political intervention site, involving political actors, public health authorities, hospitals and laboratories.
