The Coronavirus in Kids (Covkid) Tracking and Education Project

Overview

Covkid is a project launched by a progressive women's organisation that promotes independent social research in the United States. Its objective is to produce information and promote educational activities related to the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic on children. The project's website publishes up-to-date information on infection cases, intensive care admissions, and deaths of children in different states, as well as providing available information on the effects of race, ethnicity, and class inequality on a portion of the population affected by the virus, but whose visibility has been reduced. The project is animated by a collaboration between epidemiologists and an anthropologist, and includes estimates of unreported cases of infection and death in children. This project could be an inspiration for similar initiatives in view of the cases that have arisen, in several countries, of illnesses and deaths of children with some relation to exposure to the new coronavirus with its infection. But it also warns of the difficulties of identifying and defining risk groups in conditions of great uncertainty and uneven vulnerability to infection.
